![]() The advantage of General Delivery, other than it bring free, is that once you have your permanent address, you can forward your mail out out General Delivery with no issues.As we all know, post offices in the United States provide mail-forwarding postal service, which allows you to change your address. Once you've gotten the okay, you'd submit a Change of Address from your current address to General Delivery, City, State, Zip code, and the forward works just like any other COA. I'd recommend calling a post office in the city you're moving to to find out from them which station(s) offer it. There are a couple of caveats here, mainly that not every local post office offers General Delivery, and it requires postmaster approval (mostly to let us know it's coming). With General Delivery, your mail is sent directly to your local post office, where it's held for you to come collect it during regular business hours. What you might look into is what we call General Delivery. Now, usually those companies have their own policies for forwarding mail, but I'd make sure you know what they are before you sign up. You aren't allowed to forward mail out of commercial mail receiving agencies (our term for those non-USPS boxes), because their addresses are coded as businesses, and we're not able to forward personal mail out of a business address. This is where things get more complicated. Your mail will remain on hold until the COA gets into the system (generally up to 72 hours), at which point the mail will begin to be forwarded to your new non-USPS box. To answer your question, though, you can submit a Change of Address out of a hold mail. You have a couple options for what you're trying to do. No Tracking Questions/Package Inquiries/Questions regarding delays at postal facilities Any images showing the above information will be removed.
